The ensemble was founded in 2002 and has been performing as FS Lipovec since 2012. It was established by the Rovina civic association from Vranov nad Topľou – Čemerné. Through hard work the ensemble strives to win the attention of its audiences. It regularly takes part in cultural and folk events at district and regional level, and several of its dancers have won top places in national dance competitions. More than 300 performances in Slovakia and abroad testify to its high artistic quality.
Why the name Lipovec? We were looking for a name connected with Čemerné and found it in Pavol Bindas's book “Čemerne to ňebul valal”, which says that from 1229 to 1410 Čemerné belonged to the Lipovec estate. The linden tree (lipa) is also a symbol of the Slavs, which helped us choose the name. The ensemble has three sections; the oldest, for members aged 14 and over, currently has 40 members. Over the years it has visited many European countries, including the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, Croatia, Portugal, Romania and Belarus.
Most of the ensemble's dances are based on authentic recordings of old dancers. The preparatory ensemble for FS Lipovec is the children's folk ensemble Lipovček, divided into two groups. The first group, children aged 4 to 8, won the district and regional children's folklore competitions in 2015 and, at the 40th Children's Folklore Festival and 25th national competition of children's folk ensembles in Likavka near Ružomberok, placed in the silver band among 14 finalists with the programme “Na pašvisku” and received a special Audience Award. This wonderful success rewarded everyone who cares about preserving folk traditions and bringing folk art closer to young people.
The second group consists of children aged 9 to 14. They learn traditional games that were once part of everyday life and gradually move on to dances with simpler dance motifs. The ensemble's repertoire is mostly made up of dances from the Zemplín and Šariš regions, arranged according to the bearers of folk tradition. The artistic and organisational leaders are Anička and Miro Jenčo, who are also the choreographers and costume makers.
